all android apps for PB request all access rights ?

am I correct that any application repackaged from android for playbook will always request access to anything on the playbook - because the runtime does request it, not, the actual application ?

That means that is impossible to deny an android application access to for example my location, because this will stop launching the runtime for android.

or, does someone knows an android app that does not requests full access on startup ?

That's a good question. I don't have an answer for you but I just check the application security section of options on my PlayBook. None of the Android apps I've installed show up there so you may be right.

Even, if RIM tells, that the security of the Playbook is not weakend by running Android apps, everytime I install an android app, I wonder, what would happen if some trojan-like app really accesses the front cam or the microphone, and sends this information to a command and control center.
There is no LED on the cam or for the microphone which will light up if one of these devices is in use.

Just for giggles I deployed a PlayBook application that I know is an Android app on my Dev Alpha. Unfortunately if 'Force Closes' on the DA, but there is still no mention of it in the Application Permissions. I may run this question by my contacts at RIM security.

Re: all android apps for PB request all access rights ?

it seems (i am no android expert, just googled for it), that the android security system does not allow changing the permission of an application (unless you uncompress the apk, and, change the configuration file).
You have to decide in the very moment you install a Programm if you grant the permission, or, you simply cannot install it.
If you install something like icecreamsandwich on the PB, you are able to view the permissions for an Application but also cannot change it.

That means: the message which pops up by the playbook OS is wrong. RIM maybe forgot to make a different message like if app type == android then write: you cannot change the permissions later.

This would be a good topic to post on the BlackBerry support forums I think. Someone there might have more info.

Turns out, this is really a bug in the runtime for android implementation of the playbook
