Unhappy Delicate screen on 7290

Please Login to Remove!

I used to have a 7280, which I loved! It tooks loads of abuse, until finally wearing out. (charge port and trackwheel) I replaced it with a 7290 about 3 weeks ago, and am loving all the new features, bluetooth, photos, ringtones, etc. But...I read something on here the other day about the screen being VERY delicate, didn't really pay too much attention to it though. Well, this morning it dropped onto the floor of my suburban (carpet) and hit wrong, I guess. The screen appeared to have the picture of a bullet hole on it which slowly started leaking/spreading. I can't see anything at all now, just a messy black and red blob, although I can still use the phone, works fine. I ordered a new one today, will be here tomorrow. But, hello, what's the deal? My 7280 got wet, put up with my 3,4, & 7 year olds playing with it, on it, throwing it, etc.

I dont know what you read and you must have gotten a bad 7290 but i have dropped mine well over 10 times now onto concrete in the warehouse i work at(in holster of course) and have not had one problem with it. One time it even survived a 15 foor fall form a ladder and only miner scratches are on the case. This phone is not delicate by any means.

Well, I dropped my 3 week old 7290 just last night. I was taking it off and it was still in the belt holster. When I picked it up the screen was cracked. Cingular wants $225 and Blackberry wants $180. Great.

Change the screen yourself. Screens on the 7250/7520/7290 are interchangable.

There's a guy here that sells screens. Or you could pick up a phone on ebay possibly.

You'll need a Torx T6 screwdriver to open it, remove the 6 screws on the back 4 black, 2 metal. The case comes apart from the top first. Just push with a thin blade on both sides of the center button on the top. Then pull apart with your fingers. You'll hear a good pop and crack but nothing is damaged.

Remove the 1 screw from the antenna module.

Now the core of the phone will lift out if you pry slightly on the sides.

Push the tabs on both sides of the screen and it will just lift away.

Snap the replacement in, reconnect the antenna, snap into the case, close the case, and replace the screws.
