Default Help w/google maps and freedom 2000

Please Login to Remove!

Just received the freedom 2000 and have it paired and working on my BB. However it doesnt seem to be working on google maps. What it shows for "my location" is still roughly a mile away, the same spots it would show before I connect the GPS. The keychain did not come with a manual, and I cant seem to download it from the site unless I have to register.

Update. I just went outside thinking the house may be blocking it from aquire satalites. didnt seem to do anything, so I shut the keychain off, turned it back on and now it seems that my phone doesnt want to connect to it. its in the BT options, but the status icon on the BB is still yellow.

Google and the Freedom do not get along perfectly. The gps is looking for some form of acknowledgement from the BB but google does not generate it. To work around it, folks generally load another gps application like BBmaps or Black* (Blackstar is a geocache app) or, when available again, gps-logger. Sometimes going into Bluetooth menu and then the Freedom and its properties and then "refresh" or whatever term is used there will awaken it.

I still can't get the keychain to connect to my phone. I tried the refresh option, it would connect, but then after a few seconds it would disconnect. even deleted the keychain from the BT paired devices then added it back in and it would still cut out. any suggestions? do I have to register on freedoms website in order to download a manual? once I can get it to connect to my BB, then I address the map problems.

well I think the connection problem is my phone. A friend of mine has a windows based smart phone and it stayed connected to it. Just not mine. Is there some setting that needs changed? I've tried everything I can think of.

Ok, FINALLY fingered it out. Actually it was google maps causing the problem since it doesnt like the puck. Fired up BBmaps that came on the phone (and after setting the GPS services to Location On, by the way, could someone please explain what that means?) and saw the option to start using GPS and wouldnt u know, it actually worked!

now heres a hopefully simple question. I read in another topic that if a verizon pearl is upgraded to os 4.5, it "activates" the internal GPS?
