Phone stops audible ring tones

A family member has the Pearl Flip and finds that every few days, perhaps once per week or so, it stops ringing and requires a battery pull (as if Profile went to no sound). The memory is well above 40 meg when this happens. Any thoughts other than just pull it every few days? thanks
