Default Verizon Navigator Service

Please Login to Remove!

I used Verizon Navigator (v 5.0) on a recent trip to Arizona. There were many places where I had no Navigator service. In some cases Storm 2 showed no service so that would have been expected but I had other cases where service showed 3G or 1xev and still sometimes I had no service (BB maps and Google maps worked).

Can anyone explain why I did not have Navigator service. When it worked I liked it but it is aggrevating not know if it will work.

Since VZ Navigator downloads maps as it is needed, it requires the full "1XEV" service, not the "1xev".

That is the reason I dropped the VZ Navigator service and got a Garmin GPS unit.

Thanks for the response. My phone never seems to show 1XEV or 1xev it shows 3G. Is that better or worse. If I am better not to show 3G then how do I make the Storm show it (coincidently my wife's phone is a Tour and it never shows 3G but shows 1XEV). So I am confused about what the phones are suppose to show or how to change what it shows.

neil154: I don't have a 9550, so I don't know about the "3G" thing. There must be some notification to show when you don't have full access to the network.

plumcrazy: Yes, it works well if you stay on the beaten path, like main highways, interstates, etc. Once you get outside the cellphone coverage area, you're completely hosed. I also didn't like that the maps weren't current. Some new roads were created in my area two years ago, the VZ Nav maps were never updated. So, when I detoured onto those roads, VZ Nav would show that I wasn't on a "legal" road.

3G and 1XEV are the same thing, it's a 3G signal. The Storm shows 3G and the Tour shows 1XEV.

What does it show for the equivalent of "1xev", "1X", and "1x"?

Thanks to all I have learned that the 3G and 1XEV are the same just programmed differently on different BB's.

As far as VZ Navigator I guess I will switch to a real GPS since I can't depend on VZ Navigator to be operational when required.
