I've read about the issues with the sensor, but my problem seems to be different. I've had this phone for 2-3 months and have yet to see the keypad light up! I've had it in lowlight, even nolight situations and the keypad has NEVER lit up. I've set the options to:

Brightness - 100
Timeout - 2 mins
Auto dim - Off
LED indicator - have tried on & off

I bought the phone from a "friend", already had trouble with it smelling like smoke, trackball not working right, finding out that you can't activate it w/o a data plan (I had planned to upgrade my plan eventually, I just don't have the money right now) and now I'm starting to wonder if it's got a defect too. Please help!

If the keypad has never been lighted, then you bought broken device.
