I have a friend who bought a Bold from someone secondhand. He said that the phone was a pre-release from RIM and is not locked to any carrier. It has a really old OS on it...it's version 4.6.0.14 (Platform 4.0.0.55). Under Options --> About, I didn't see a Branding Version of any sort. Weird.

I tried to update the OS to version .247 using AppLoader, but it said "This system software is not designed for the connected device [A:0x00000043]" I even tried deleting the vendor.xml file but the same error occurred.

Then I tried to update the OS through DM and it said "A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again."

So how can I update this Bold??!?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
