If i were to install another carrier's OS on my 7100i from Nextel would it still work? What would happen if I do?

It can be done...I've installed the Hong Kong version on my 7100t from T-Mobile...features and "bug fixes" would depend on which OS you chose. I think that jibi has posted some detailed information in this thread on the "how to's".

I do know from personal experience that regardless of the OS you choose, there are additional steps to take before you feed it to your Blackberry to ensure that you can get the Zen and Today themes.

Whoops...gotta backtrack...I just reviewed jibi's original post, he states pretty clearly that this technique won't work for the 7100i...my bad...

BECAUSE the 7100i uses different hardware. Nextel = IDEN. there are GSM, CDMA and other phones out there. you can only use another carriers if it has the same hardware.
