Is there a chart anywhere of how platform numbers relate to the OS numbers?
For example, 1.6.1.41 is OS3.7, 1.6.1.48 is 4.0, etc..

No; in fact you could have 1.6.1.41 with 3.7 and also with 4.0.

I am told the denotion of 1.6.1.x is just the radio firmware portion of things.

Really? From what I saw on the OS downloads, it seems that anything greater than 1.6.1.41 is >OS 3.8.
Isn't it grand that RIM's API has a function named getOSVersion() that returns the platform version? I mean, really, what genius at RIM did that? I am discovering all these little nuggets of joy all across the API.
