I was in Australia last week, My 8800 and my friends Pearl were getting data connection refused. Lasted about 12 hours, then was all good. I just got back to the US and my friends Pearl (Australia) is acting a little crazy, not sure if it is the network or not. We both used Google talk and BIS. He dropped his Pearl, coincidentally or not, no data connection appears to be present, but no error message either. When he pulls battery, it will work for about 5 minutes, then cant send or receive BIS email and gets booted out of Google Talk.

Sound like network issue, or due to a drop? I would have thought if due to drop it wouldn't work at all.

Have them remove the sim card and reseat it, as well and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion John, but it did not work. We are hoping it is network issues. Seems odd it works after a reboot but then stops within 5 minutes.
