How do I reinstall the operating system? The same as firmware? Which one is recommened for me, to use on AT&T?
I prefer something newer than what they offer, maybe one from AVEA I think it is?

I guess I need to RMA the phone, because after a full wipe it still doesn't connect.
This is very, very weird. It is like the phone refuses to use the radio. But the transmission of something works because I waS doing something with it near my computer and the speakers made those sounds like when one receives a text message and the phone is right next to the speakers, you hear that sound from the speakers first before the text msg beeps.

For S&G, I put in a T-Mobile SIM card into it, and no dice. But, the voicemail flag was raised, I reckon the persons SIM that I borrowed had a message. I have yet to check mine to see if it does it or not. But very interesting nonetheless.
But this makes zero sense. Why would a reboot cause the radio to suddenly stop working?

How do I determine if my BlackBerry is "unlocked"? - BlackBerryFAQ
Please follow the above instructions! Then tell us what you see!
It sounds like your Blackberry is not unlocked therefore refusing to use the sim.

It's a good chance it's either pre production or stolen, that why it won't work. Once you register on the netowrk it got suspended.

That's true! I didn't even think of that.

You know what, I was talking to my manager at work and that was the first thing he thought of.
But what I don't get is, why when I used a T-Mobile SIM card, I wasn't allowed onto the network. And even if the SIM card is banned, I should still have SOS shown rather than an X. And wouldn't AT&T say something to me when I called them up?
The person I got it from has a high rating on ebay too.

Even though there is no SIM card in the phone, I dialled 6-1-1 to see if that would work. It failed and said emergency calls only.
And I have no desire to try to call 911 to test it out. Though I can go on the road and look for an accident to report.
But what do you think I should do? Call RIM and see what they can do? Or contact the person I bought it from (so far he has been responding to my emails), say I want a refund, and just buy another one, properly, from AT&T? And ask them to unlock it since they prolly will.
And who cares about a little branding and 2G/3G selection anyways? And changing the theme is all what it takes to get blackberry maps on (though for now).
I can always swap out the keyboard/bottom plate to make it look RIM-like at least.

Your SIM isn't the problem. If it is barred by RIM, it's done by the PIN of the device.

Ohhh!
What do you recommend? Call RIM or just return it to where I got it from and get a proper one from AT&T? I should be available to get it under contract since I didn't first time around since I got the first one from an authorized reseller in brooklyn that unlocked it free of charge.

You can try calling RIM first, but if you can't get it fixed, then yes, I would get a legit at&t device if you plan on using it with at&t.

Ugh, just got off the phone with RIM. They only offer paid-support. But, I need to call AT&T again, speak with their in-house blackberry support to see what they can do. If they can't, THEY need to transfer me back to RIM to get free RIM support.
I asked the agent and she doesn't know whether or not my PIN has been banned or not.

This is where we stand now. Just got off the phone call with AT&T. And it was annoying as hell. Call got dropped so had to go through everything again.
Then the lady said it is definitely my SIM card that is bad. She claims it has errors because it doesn't register with the network. I said I use my SIM card in another phone without incident but she didn't want to hear it.
Then I said I used another SIM card, one from AT&T and the other from T-Mobile in my Berry and she said no difference.
She claims T-Mobile uses a different technology than AT&T does, I said the phone is SIM unlocked, and she refused to escalate it to RIM until I got the new SIM card.
I told her if RIM was indeed blocking me, or if the hardware radio was pulled out, you get the same error on your screen, correct? She agreed then said I need to follow my steps in order first.
So off to the AT&T store. At least I got her full name, so hopefully something can be done about it soon!
