I looked at the speaker. It has its own little clear plastic enclosure around it. I think that is designed to protect the speaker from damage when the back is off, and divert sound through the opening on the top (play something and point the top at your head, it gets way louder). So I wonder whether a door with holes over it will make much of a difference seeing as how the speaker is covered anyway.

Thumbs up Pictures!

Courtesy of BBHub, I've now seen the first pictures of the (extended) battery door with the "proper" speaker opening!

Seidio has additional pictures and info HERE.

I've gotta hand it to the guys (& possibly gals) at Seidio. They figured out that it was possible to solve one of the 8100's biggest flaws, and they've gone ahead and done it!

Sadly, though, I doubt this fix will be possible on the upcoming 8800 without replacing the entire device housing... or at least the back half of it.

Still, I'm happy for all you Pearl owners that you'll now be able to have a nice LOUD speaker like the one on my 8700g!

There's already a review on the extended battery here.

Seidio... this is my suggestion, if you make the speaker hole for the door you will have to make some holes on the rubber skin as well

I'm interested in the battery cover as well. Can you give a time frame and a price?

Not interested. But I would be interested if it would allow me to hear music/RTs better and use the camera too. It's not a great camera but it's one reason I got the Pearl and I hate to chuck it. (I don't go into courtrooms)

This may make you to be inetrested in !

Seidio will release two battery doors for BB 8100

Extended battery door with speaker opening (released !)
OEM battery door with speaker opening (coming soon)

Both will be available in two versions

- with Camera cover (If the feedbacks are favorable)
- Without camera cover (Seidio will definitely have this version )

Now, would you be inetrested in ?

I am now very interested and will plan on purchasing the OEM without the Camera cover. One other recommendation if I could. I believe Seidio should make a good effort to fix the issue of the loose battery door. That would solve both issues I have with the battery door on the Pearl. Looking forward to it!!!!!!!!!!!!

From sanfrans review of the extended battery and its case, it seems like seidio has fixed the loose battery door problem by bulking it up. I am sure they will do that same for the oem battery door.

That is awesome!!!! The muffled speaker, and the loose battery door are my two biggest complaints about the Pearl. And Seidio is trying to fix both!!!!

You can disable the camera with BES policy in 4.1 SP2.
