"On the 8100 and 71xx models you can hold down the * key for a few seconds while you're typing to switch between then 2 typing modes (multitap and suretype)"

W/the Telus OS, does this work on the 8130?

The * key on mine locks the keys.

Thanks. I'm interested in the results on the 8130 Pearl with the new Telus OS.

I loaded the Telus OS on mine and have the same results. I do notice a padlock in the corner when I lock the keys that I don't think was there before.

I think the padlock is there just when you enable a password. I could be wrong...

It does if you are in the application list. Otherwise it is the symbols key.

Can you guys check something else? Is the intermittent backlight dimming still going on? I had turned off backlighting dimming on an 8130 in the store, and the display would still dim, seemingly randomly, regardless of any ambient light change...

Seems to work ok on mine. I turned off the auto backlight dimming and checked in a dark room and under a flash light. Looks the same no matter what. The light remains on.

Excellent! That (given my amazingly bad eyesight) was one of my key concerns... :D

Loaded the new OS. Haven't really noticed anything different. However, it "lost" my Yahoo email. The icon was still there, and I could send emails from it, but couldn't receive emails on the handset. A battery pull took care of that and so far it appears that the Yahoo email was fixed by that.

From what I've seen...

"Confirmed" updates gained from the Verizon .60 version to the .65 Telus version:

- Can initiate calls via Bluetooth when the phone is in standby/in holster
- Pressing/holding Mute puts Pearl into standby w/out requiring confirmation
- Auto-dim works properly (display doesn't dim when auto-dim is turned off)

Things people have posted, but aren't quite as simple as works/doesn't work to confirm:

- More free memory (seen a few posts)
- Louder volume (one post)
- A bit faster (one post)

Issues:

- Some of the "Today" themes aren't displaying properly
- Mixed reports on Bluetooth connection stability, some positive, some unchanged
- Have now seen one report of a memory leak not appearing until after the upgrade

Since this isn't a Verizon OS, is the GPS no longer crippled from Google Maps? Or does Verizon actually cripple the hardware??

Jared:

No - I don't even have a Pearl yet! :(

My NE2 is Thursday, so I've been living vicariously and arming myself w/as much knowledge as possible in advance.

This last few weeks has nothing but delayed gratification for me (which I'm not very good at, my wife has had a great time making fun of me).

I will be at the VZW store Thursday AM when they open. I sure hope I really like this phone when I get it home...after all this time invested in it, I'll be very bummed if it doesn't work out for me!

You'll love it. Based upon your profile I thought you already had one.

Yeah...I had misunderstood my NE2 date at first, so when I signed up here I thought I'd have the phone in a day or so...
