I'm thinking of buying either of the two phones. Previously owned Nokias and like their simplicity. Could people give me both positive and negative views on both phones for a decision.

Nokia is older device but there are more useful 3-d party soft for Symbian. I think ergonomic of Rim OS is much better. Both OS may die in nearest future because Nokia and RIM choosen to groving new OSs.
