Default "searching" while reception low

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Tmo pearl and I i'm sick and tired of either low reception because of the BB or Tmobile. i almost don't care wich part is at fault, but my phone is constantly "searching" in my office. People with cingular have 4 bars. my coworker with a cingular blackberry gets 4 bars.

If i pick up my phone to text with 1 or 2 bars, it ALWAYS goes to "searching" while i'm typing my text. i think if my body is touching it, the phone gets less reception, or it tries to find a better signal while typing a message. In order to minimize searching mode, i leave it out on my desk out of the case. If it's on my hip in the case and i take it out, 50% of the time it is searching and it will stay in searching for up to 1 minute to 2 minutes before it finds a signal again. when i do have a signal, the quality is excellent no matter if i walk to the center of my building.

some of you might say, "why didn't i notice this during the first 30 days?". well i didn't know i was missing calls left and right at work, and i didn't have a case back then so it was always on my desk.

if i bug Tmobile enough will they let me out of the remaineder of my one year contract and give me an unlock code? that way i could try cingular's reception?

I doubt they will let you out of the contract, but you could try. Anything is worth a shot. If they don't, then you haven't lost anything.

Your issue is most likely TMO over the device. They will let you out of your contract, but most likely will let you but you will have an early termination fee. You may be able to talk your way out of it if you explain your displeasure.

do you think they can check connection logs that show them on their side how many times my phone connects and disconnects as proof i'm getting the issue. i'd almost gurantee at least 6-10 disconnects/reconnects or more during 8-5 monday thorugh friday.

That is something I don't know. I would call TMO T-support and tell them that you are dropping calls alot and they may be able to take a look. Most likely they will tell you that there is not a tower near by and ask if you would like a surveryor come take a look. It could be years before a new tower is put in place. I would just see if t-support can see how many diconnects you had.

well that's the thing. i've never had a dropped call. if it connects it's good. it's staying connected that is the problem. my text messges always go to the red x, and then i have to remember to resend when the network comes back. I also just miss calls if somebody tries to call me around the time it goes into "searching".

Some info on "Searching..." and "Searching for Network."

There is a difference. When I see "Searching..." it means that the BB has picked up a signal but the signal is blocked. This usually occurs when the device finds Cingular/AT&T's tower, connects but is locked out. You'd likely be able to make an emergency call with "Searching..." When it says "Searching..." go into Options >Mobile Network and look at the carrier name in there. It will usually show Cingular since they block TMo users in most areas in the US except for a few.

"Searching for Network" is truly what it says. It is currently in between signals and is looking for a network. If it stays on "Searching for Network" long enough it will then turn to "No Service."

So, most of the time in the US, "Searching..." is AT&T locking us TMo users from their network.

Good point.. John Clark.

This is true on a lot of devices.. if you see 0 bars.. doesn't mean "no service".. you simply can only make emergency calls.

You'd be surprised the emergency bands you have access too when you think you have absolutely no service.
Then when you do.. you get angry that you didn't have access to that band in the first place

The OP's BB is merely stuck on AT&T's signal while searching for another unblocked signal. I see it all the time and wish there was some way TMo could get a better roaming agreement with AT&T.

They'll give you an unlock code after three months of service.

It won't hurt to ask regarding getting out of your contract. I did just this with Verizon. I got extremely poor to no service at both work and at home. I called and complained, they sent out a technician to check the signal at my home and when they found it was awful let me out of my contract with no extra termination fees.

If you feel the service is that bad, give it a shot!

Searching... means it's connected to AT&T's network but you can't roam on it. If you watch it carefully for a while you'll probably see "searching for network" for a few moments and back to "Searching..."

This is normal when there is no TMo signal and good AT&T signal. You have no TMo signal where you are.

i think you are right. i paid special close attention. and it goes to "searching for netowrk" for like 1 second then to "searching" for about 3-4 minutes. during this time i went to the control panel and at&t was there as the network i was on.

I would have to say that telling them that the service is not good at all for you is the best way to go. I feel your pain i used to have a sidekick, i also had att for my phone at the same time and it was a joke on how bad the t-mobile service was, ya they are a European based company and that would give a hint why the service isn't to good in the US of A, but non the less i have heard if you tell them that the service is very little to non usable due to inconsistent signal. I think if you are not able to totally get out you should be able to get out for less then the whole early termination fee
