Introducing its first UMA enabled handset, RIM today unveiled the BlackBerry 8820 messaging phone.

RIM today unveiled the BlackBerry 8820, the first UMA enabled BlackBerry handset. The new BlackBerry 8820 seamlessly switches between GSM/EDGE cellular networks and Wi-Fi connections, enabling users to access e-mail, IM and Internet via Wi-Fi networks.

To meet security requirements, the BlackBerry 8820 is compliant with Wi-Fi security protocols, including WEP, WPA, WPA2 and Cisco Compatible Extensions. In addition, the BlackBerry 8820 includes software for several VPN corporate network restrictions.

The BlackBerry 8820 also offers a slim design with a full QWERTY keyboard and trackball navigation. Furthermore, we find built-in GPS, support for Bluetooth stereo and the capability of playing music and watching videos in full screen mode. The 8820 also sports a microSD memory slot that supports both microSD and microSDHC memory cards. The BlackBerry 8820 also comes with the Roxio Media Manger for BlackBerry developed by Sonic.

The BlackBerry 8820 includes a headset, travel charger, USB cable and holster in the sales package, and will be available through AT&T later this summer.
