Default Sending & Receiving Email during a call

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I tried searching but due to the rather generic terms (sending, receiving, email, call, etc.) I have not found a suitable answer - so I'll ask the question:

With my T-Mobile 7290 (not on BES), I am unable to send and/or receive email during a voice call. Is this a network limitation with the device or is there a setting change I can make that will allow me the ability to do this?

Here's some more info for example. Currently, if I try to send an email during a call I get a 'clock' icon beside the email. Then once the call ends - the email is sent. Also, if an email arrives while I am on a call, I will get the 'new mail chime' immediately after I hang up.

Now, if this is perfectly normal please tell me.... but if there is a setting change I can make, please point me in the right direction.

Cheers, Rich

You can't send or receive email while on a call. If you are accessing data (i.e. website or email) and receive a phone call it will go to voicemail. It can appear as though you can surf and receive a call, however when you are surfing you arent always accessing data. If you receive a call during one of those periods when you aren't actively accessing data the call will go through.

This is a limitatation of the device. At this point there is nothing you can do to change it.

He has TMO which is TMDA. I thought it would pause the data and take the call...

I don't recall TMO using TDMA. TDMA used to be old AT&T.

The only experience I have when voice will override data is when I was using Nextel but it was not a BlackBerry.

When you get some time read this link http://www.privateline.com/PCS/GSM0.html . Great reading. I will post this small portion for your viewing. GSM is TDMA based and it "should" put your data connection on hold and let you take the call. CDMA is the system that will put the call directly to voicemeil.

This is the correct, complete view of GSM. It's not enough to say, as I have too many times, that GSM and conventional cellular (IS-136) are TDMA based. While that it is true, it is more true to say such systems are TDMA and FDM based.

Whether GSM and TDMA is the same, I'm not sure but with GSM/GPRS devices, data will be paused if a phone call comes in. With CDMA devices like Verizon or Sprint, Data won't be paused and if a call comes in while data is being transmitted, the call will just go to voice mail and not ring on the device. I have understood it to be a limitation of the network not the device.
