Default Disabling 1st exchange server where BES resides

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Last year we installed BES 4.1.20 in combination with Exchange 2003 SP2 on the same server. Last month we installed a new (2nd) Exchange server 2003 SP2. We would like to disable the 1st Exchange server, but BES services wont allow that (dependancies) Is there a way to reconfigure the BES server to remove the dependencies toward the old exchange server that is running on the same machine?

How about to remove BES, remove 1st exchange server and then reinstall BES (maybe even version v4.1.5)? We only have 3 BBusers.

Thx,

Manfred Martin

You have to leave a portion of Exchange installed on the BES server for BES to run. Just move the Exchange Information store, or the mailboxes to the new server should be enough I would think.

Hi.

The purpose is to leave BES running and to uninstall/disable (services) Exchange. When i disable the exchange services on that machine it whants to shutdown the BES Synchronization service, policy service and dispatcher service also. When you shut those down, BES stops functioning. Als when i disable the exchange services the BES services wont start.

I have to uninstall the 1st exchange server because of MS licencing.

Cheers

OOOh, so you have BES installed on that 1st exchange server. Well I would try stopping first BES services. Remove Exchange, add only Exchange tools and SPs and start BES.

ONLY 3 users? Why not kill it and start fresh?

Yeah, thought so: kill it and install latest version.

I like to disable the 1st exchange services first to seen if the 2nd exchange server is functioning properly for a view days, but then BES wont start: BES Synchronization service, policy service and dispatcher service.
Removing the first exchange server is a real challange due to is the master of many exchange sync services.

it won't strat sine you need exchange mgmt tools installed. So once exchange is removed just install mgmt tools. Or even better to do what knottyrope suggest.

Thanks all. I asked the to change devices to WM6 =)
Less support needed and they can do mp3, photo's, mms and internet.
