Bold always shows no service
Please Login to Remove!
I got a Bold some time ago, had a problem with it keep resetting, so I returned it, and got a new one. But since I FedExed it, I used my old Nokia while waiting to get my new phone.
Now I got my new BB, I inserted the SIM card, it registered, and worked. I then synced it, updated firmware, and send service books so I can get personal email working once again.
After rebooting the phone, my phone now always shows no service. I rebooted, pulled battery, sim card, etc. and no dice.
I put the SIM card back into my old phone and that worked.
Options show no coverage, but I know there is coverage bc it works with my old phone.
This is a brand new, unbranded blackberry.
The phone did work until I rebooted it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What does the signal indicator look like? Does it say "Off", or does it have an X?

Since your device is unbranded, have you tried checking your network settings to see if it is set to 2G & 3G?

What if you remove the SIM card and power up the BB? Do you get SOS as the indicator?

Are you sure this is unbranded? Did you do it yourself? Where did you buy it?

I bought it on ebay as unbranded/unlocked.
it worked until i synced/upgraded/send service books.
for s&g, i wiped it, put the standard AT&T firmware back on and all that jazz and it still says no service.
i did call at&t but they provided me with no assistance, they have no reason as to why i cant join the network.
i have not tried using another sim card in this phone yet, but i did put this sim card into my old nokia phone and it does work, so i know i get coverage where i am now at.

It is a UI for the javaloader. Use the resettofactory option.

What kind of SIM are you putting in there? Is it a 3G SIM? I had a corrupt sim card when I first got my Bold. AT&T replaced the SIM for free and I was good to go.

Okay, so I used that, received no errors, removed the battery, and put it back in, turned it on. It did the wiping routine twice it seemed.
After the phone booted, it started to use the default theme, has the wrong time, and still says Searching for Network...
After several minutes it will then say no service.

If there is an X next to the antennae, doesn't that mean that the cell radio is off?

One more thing, I put my SIM card into a colleague's phone, and it worked. I took his SIM card, and still got the came problem, searching for Network.

On a side note, even though the phone has no signal, and the phone is unbranded, the icons from the network still get pushed to me. Though not too sure if they just downloaded when the phone actually had a connection.
I rather not exchange the phone again, because I see no reason as to why it suddenly stopped working. There has to be something causing this.

I don't know if it means anything, but I should be able to still surf the internet, right? And solely use wifi? It sees my AP, I am connected to it, but the wifi logo is not white, instead its gray. It is defined and sees networks, so dunno. Anything else I can do?
I opened up a ticket with the company I bought it from.

I would do a JL_Cmder "Wipe", which will completely wipe the device (No operating system or anything). Then reinstall the OS. If that doesn't work, then it's a hardware issue.
