Default Why does Sprint not allow MMS on the Pearl?

Please Login to Remove!

Why does Sprint not allow MMS on the new Pearl? Everyone is always fussing about Verizon not allowing GPS but atleast On VZW you can purchase GPS. On Sprint you cant even purchase MMS. Verizon says its due to security. what has Sprint said about MMS?

Not asking for a flame war I am seriously asking a question. My Brother in law wants a Pearl but doesnt want to pay the ETF from Sprint. But he would like to have MMS like he does on his reg phone.

Seriously they don't allow mms on the pearl? That's kind of strange. Juwaaack may be able to answer this

I'm gonna walk down to sprint today and inquire

Sprint's backend doesn't support true MMS, that's why it's always disabled on any of the PDA/smartphones that are MMS capable. People think PictureMail is MMS but it really isn't...

welcome to the forums. you are correct, PM is not sent the same as MMS. It is an application that resides on the device and connects through their network a different way, rather than MMS which is similar to an email.

The Centro is a PDA/Smartphone and it has picture mail. So its not an issue of it being possible.

Yes you are right, I should have clarified specifically Windows Mobile and BlackBerry devices... but still, true MMS is not supported on Sprint.

All I have been told is that it is not as easy as 'flipping a switch' for them to turn it on. For BB's they only support PictureMail and SMS texting.

Would I like to have it? Sure. Can I live without it? Sure. It's certainly not something that would make me want to switch carriers.

You just can't send a pic to a person's phone who doesn't get email. To me that's the advantage of MMS, the ability to send a pic or an mp3 to a camera phone like the Chocolate.

Yea, but if that person doesn't have a BB, why would I even bother knowing them?

JUST KIDDING!

There was a big write up on this in the news and I wil try to locate a link. I remember the write up stating what SPC keishou said that it is a back end issue. After reading the article I did not realize that carriers contracted their MMS through 3rd parties.

On a side note, so many people are saying that Sprint reps are saying true MMS is coming but I have a hard time believing that anytime soon.

Actually, I know for sure you can "email" Verizon phones. Its their number@verizonpix.com or some crap like that. I'd have to get into my email to see, but that works as mms to Verizon. Not sure on all carriers, but I had Verizon and that's how I would send myself ringtones

the phone still has to be able to receive pictures in order to display it properly. if you take a startac (some people still use those things) and send that email to it, it will just receive the notification and no MMS. (if it can even receive the notification.)

Well yeah, given that the phone you're sending to supports mms :P
I know verizon is [email address]
and tmobile is [email address]

I know with my old LG 6000, if I couldn't receive the pix/vid... it would notify me that it got sent to my online account thing, and I could view it there.. some phone like you said, the older they are, may or may not even be able to get the notification

Well, lets say Joe doesn't have a blackberry, nor an email supporting phone, and no IM service..
You could send joe pix/music/video through MMS :P
It's a stretch in these days but my grandma's phone doesn't do any fancy stuff like that, so you'd mms her a pic if you needed to

we arent discussing Verizon. This is a sprint issue. I can recieve and send MMS from my 8130 pearl on verizon. On my 8703 all I would get would be the notification that I had MMS and had to visit the site from a PC and that sucked. Wasnt worth getting unless they emailed it to me.

MMS is great my family shares photos all the time this way. Especially my kids when they arrive where they are going we always have them send us a picture to verify.

I've tried sending pics to another sprint user via [email address] and it never makes it. It has that circle icon next to the message for ever. Its just a simple pic I took with the phone. Any ideas?

Dawg....its still has that circle icon. The pic was only 4kb in size. I dont know whats going on. I have had the phone for about 3 weeks and have not been able to send pics at all. I thought it was just somethign I had to learn but apparently it might be the service.
