Default Call waiting option not in options list. How to turn on?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB 8310, bought in Australia.

I bought an AT&T Go Phone (just for the SIM card) in the US ages ago.

I just arrived in the US yesterday and will be here for several months.

I put the AT&T Sim card in my 8310 and everything works fine except suddenly call waiting doesn't work. When someone calls me while I am busy on the phone their call goes directly to my AT&T voice mail box.

When I put the AT&T sim card in the crappy AT&T branded phone that came with the SIM card, call waiting works fine.

I went to the help function on the BB to try to learn how to turn calling waiting on (on the phone rather than by contacting my service provider and them doing it somehow on their network). The help on the BB said to go Options > Call Waiting > Call Waiting Enabled > Yes, but when I go to the Options menu there is no "Call Waiting" option.

Before you ask, in Australia I organised the call waiting through my telephone service provider, I called them and asked them to switch call waiting on and it suddenly worked. Hence I have never done it through the phone.

Any ideas on why call waiting works on the crappy AT&T branded handset but not on my 8310 with the same SIM card?

I am betting that option is there, if you go to the correct place. Press the GREEN dial key which will take you to the Phone Dialer screen. Press Menu > Options > Call Waiting. Anything?

If the optioon is not present in your settings where I describe (which is the correct place), then perhaps it is a setting of your GoPhone account.

YES!! Brilliant, that's exactly where it was and I did it and it all works now. I misread the HELP instructions. It said "in the phone hit the options key", I incorrectly took that to mean go to Options in the Applications Menu.

Thanks so much for setting me right

Now I just have to call them and see if I can get my BB service (i.e. my emails) on this GoPhone plan I am on. Initially I wasn't going to get my emails on my handset while I am here in the US but now that I can use my 8310 rather than their crappy handset, I think I might try to.

Don't suppose anyone happens to know whether I can?

I don't think you will be able to get BIS service through a GoPhone voice plan. I have been told it is not possible... but check and see.
