Default Phone Dials Wrong Area Code

Please Login to Remove!

I bought my Bold last month used from eBay and I love it. However, there are a couple glitches. For one, when I transferred my SIM card all the phone numbers were added to the phone. However, sometimes I saved those numbers with the local seven-digit number in the old phone. This new Bold I bought from eBay came from Tacoma, Washington (Area Code 253), and sometimes when I do a quick dial via keypad, some of those non-specified area code numbers from the old SIM card don't make it through. I live in Area code 408 and the phone tries to speed dial (253) xxx-xxxx. Of course the call doesn't go through and I fix the problem by correcting the phone number with a simple edit job. The question is this: how is my Bold somehow assuming the 253 area code? How can I fix it so it would assume my local 408 area code the next time I would speed dial a seven-digit number?

sounds like it's been set up wrong.

goto

Call Log>Options>Smart Dialling

make sure all the settings in there are correct for the area you're in

Thanks, dude. It worked. I do have a follow-up question, though.

What if I travel abroad and put in a local SIM card? Do I have to change the international and area codes, too?

Yes, you have to change the country code. I've never tried the area code internationally, but I think it's better to put full phone numbers in and not use the area code.

If you travel a lot, you should put your numbers in the form of +1 (XXX) XXX-XXXX with the +1 in front and the area code. Well you don't need to change all your numbers, but the ones you are going to sms or call. That way you can just change the country code and the number will work fine from either place.
