Camera sound is set by default and made hard to get rid of for obvious reasons. If you *really* want to disable it, there is a way, however. You will need to write your own customized app to disable the sound. I am not sure if RIM made the API open to public. You will need to grab a copy of JDE and find out.

Hopefully this helps....

I'm pretty sure it's a law that you cannot disable the camera sound on a cameraphone.

Reasons : too many ppl brought their camera phones in public restrooms or changing area and taking pics without others knowing about it.

No such law, if there were Nokia, Moto, Se would all be in trouble because it is easily disabled on many phones. Many states (Texas being one such state) have added laws making illegal to take pictures in public restrooms and taking pictures of people without their knowledge for sexual gratification purposes.

Not true. I know many people who have gotten rid of camera sounds on some of their cell phones. There are even phones that offer no shutter noise in the camera options menu.

On the BlackBerry Pearl though there is no option to silence the camera and AFAIK there is no way to disable it.

Sorry for not specifying : it *think* its law here in Canada .. Might not be in the US

But still, for privacy concers, it should be there anyway.

I know they wanted to make it law in some asian countries to require a sound for both reasons stated above and because people were taking pictures of magazines so they didn't have to buy them.

Default Easy way to get rid of the camera sound...

At the risk of contributing to cameraphone perverts...

1. Make suer the provided headset is plugged in.
2. Open the media player and play and/or pause a file.
3. Open the camera - take pics - sound effect is played through the headset.

Corporate spies and perverts rejoice!
Just stay away from my sister. Seriously.

Ah, Canada. Our well regulated socialist friends from up North. Now they regulate phone sounds!

Regulating phone sounds to deterr perverts is better than regulating processor speeds and encryption methods. But let's not turn this into a country flame war (don't want any cowboy hats to get burnt <--notice how i'm making a joke to show how serious i am?)

Maybe you might scare the caiboo away with the flash and click sound? Petition for removing the flash too while you're at it.

The only bone I have to pick with Canada is the massive slaughter of seals they're engaged in. Otherwise it is a beautiful country with many canadians
