Build Quality of your Curve?
Please Login to Remove!
Ok Guys and Gals, I'm just looking to get some feedback from all you new Curve owners.
The question is, How is your Curve holding up from it's first week of heavy use? Is the Build Quality as tight as when you took it out of the box, or have the sides become a little loose and squeaky, does your keyboard have more play then before,is your battery cover becoming loose? anything related to the build quality of you unit! Post your thoughts, along with where your unit was made, and how it's been holding up so far. Curious to see all of your views on this topic!

So, uh, stupid question: how do I determine where my Curve was made?
I'll wait a few more days before I answer your question about build quality. I would be very surprised if the battery door ever gets the kind of play my previous BBs had (8700, 7130) because of the little sticker tab thingamahjig RIM put on the underside of the door.
Week one ends on Tuesday, but, so far so good.

Open the back, remove the battery. It's on the sticker.

I have heard some here and there say the Canadian-made Curves were the best...but mine says it was made in Mexico (imagine that...) and it is solid as a rock so far.
BTW...the 8800 I had for less than a day was hecho en Mexico as well. Hmmm...

Out of the box there is play between my volume and camera button. Does not seem to have gotten any worse.

Made in Canada
Did not have play out of the box. 2 Days went by and there was play between the volume and camera keys, also the bottom corners below the shift keys are loose and squeaky. What a shame, thought it was finaly going to be a rock solid berry. I am not gonna bother exchanging it as I have seen other posts of people who exchanged their Curve and had the same issue with the new units. I guess we just have to deal with it until the next model comes out.

I noticed some play between the camera and volume keys as well. I purchased one on 5/31 the day it was released and its Made in Mexico. I thought the first batches were always made in Canada. Who got a made in Canada Curve. I believe those to be a better build from my Pearl experiences.

As posted previously in this thread, mine is made in Canada, has plastic play issues.
One thing I would like to comment here, and not to get too scientific; the play does vary with temperature, i.e in warmer environments there is less play, I guess because the plastic expands. Maybe a case for MythBusters?

Ahh Haa
My friend you stand correct, left it on my counter while in the shower last night! I guess the heat or humidity caused the rubber or plastic to expand a bit! Seems better!! Ha Ha, everyone keep your Curves in the bathroom while in the shower! A little humor never hurts.

Made in Mexico here, and yes I do have some play between play and volume buttons some of the time as well. IS this even a correctable issue? Are there units where this does not occur? I just thought that all the units did this, so I did not bother returning yet, let me know!

My advice,
Just wait a couple of days and see what people have to say! Could just be something that occurs over time with the rubber sides. Or maybe it disappears as more units get delivered to the stores! Either way you have a good two and a half, three weeks to hold out for an exchange!

Interesting. Mine is made in Canada. I've tried. I've pushed and squeezed, tried everything I can to find loose parts, play in the pieces and on mine it just doesn't exist.
OK, with one exception that I read about before I bought the phone: the keyboard moves around a bit, but so did the keyboard on my 8700. It doesn't bother me and I probably wouldn't have noticed had I not read about it.
The build quality on mine (which arrived Tuesday morning) is incredible. One of the best built phones I've owned.

After a month with my unlocked O2 Curve, it's still solid and silent. Made in Canada.
