Question How to force OS5 onto Bold without current BB data plan

Please Login to Remove!

I have an old 9000 that I no longer use. I am giving it to a friend, but before I do I would like to upgrade it to the latest version 5 OS.

DM and Loader are telling me that without an active plane the highest I can go is 4.6. This device is carrier locked and I have since changed cellular providers so my SIM does not do the trick.

Is there a way around this? She will get the plan, but updating is beyond her ability.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked around here, but couldn't find any answers.

Thanks in advance

To get around this, I have used Javaloader to wipe the handheld.
you will get the error that no applications are loaded.

Then go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
and run apploader.exe

I've done this a few times without issue.

Yes, disconnect your PC from the internet, no DSL or wifi connection.
Turn off WiFi on your BlackBerry.
Use the instructions at the top of the Bold 9000 forum and run the loader.exe file as instructed... just make sure the PC has NO connection to the internet.
