Default want to use BB 9000 for WiFi only - NO cellular

Please Login to Remove!

A friend that upgraded to an iPhone
gave me his old Blackberry 9000 (3G & Wifi)
to play with on just my WiFi network -

I have turned off the cellular portion,
and am only playing with the WiFi connection,
which I can see works across my network
by viewing my router logs.

When it first turns on, it connects to -> rcp.na.blackberry.com

The BB 9000 has a couple of newspaper apps like WSJ, AP, etc, Radio, etc
and they appear to work via WiFi, a few don't,
but I'm kinda getting lost in trying to get the actual browser to work....

WSJ -> bb.wsj.com
New York Times -> appears to want the cellular connection
AP news -> m.apnews.com
Slacker Radio -> Slacker Personal Radio - Listen to Free Internet Radio

I'm guessing that the cellular pending connection
is displayed as the "Blackberry" words on a white screen
with the blue "Requesting" progress bar...

Lastly - I can see some apps in the Blackberry Apps - "My World" -
but the icons are not showing on the actual screen ?

SO - what else do I need to tinker with to get the BB 9000 to just work as a handy web broswer on local WiFi...

Please do not double post. Your 2nd thread has been deleted.

Yu need a BB data plan from a cell carrier for those data apps, especially those that use RIM, BBMaps and the other BB apps for example.

Just to followup -
I have the cellular radio turned OFF -
since the BB no longer has an active account.
The only access is via Wifi -

SO - several apps work just fine via the WiFi only connection...
WSJ, APnews, Bloomberg, Time,
A couple of these were already loaded- which was great -
since several did not have a PC download option,
only over the air & only via the BB Browser... which of course couldn't work.

Hmmm - really wanted an Internet browser -

Had to find a solution...
Found a list in a forum of well behaved WiFi apps,
and a couple of browser alts were suggested -
one being Opera Mini -

Downloaded it - great - now what - tried the USB cable & the BB does not
appear as a drive.... hmmm
OK - went and found the BB Desktop software, but which version to use to
match the firmware... hmmm
Downloaded and installed a few versions - found 4.6 seemed to work -
then loaded Opera Mini -

Works like a champ
Fun to play with around the house....
as long as I can see WiFi, I have Internet access...
